The Eve

I remember feeling like a child with candy
With a rush of enthusiasm my stars spelt lucky
Thus it was never risky being cheery though it was sunny
My new office stares with a gloomy dome but alas she was perky
That sense of jolly that comes without being funny
Maybe because her hair was never curly but the torso – ever curvy
With every stare I got “pervy” like…
“In my hometown kissing is a greeting; now greet me in my native language”
It’s like she knew how to start an emotional rampage
Inevitably she had the emotional advantage
Her laugh was like Mexican telenovela causing mental damage from a heavenly spillage
Her warmth reminded me of my mother’s hugs
So you are thinking I’m writing above love
Nay, this is a celebration of suave
Makes you believe in the Entity above
Perfectly fitting like a surgeon’s glove
Personality up high like a dove circling the ripest trees up high
These words are bamboozled; like the poet, they are puzzled
How do you correct these words if the heart fumbles?
Because I swear when she smiles the jungle would rumble
Like my tummy after red-red and palm wine with foamy bubbles
Safe to say, for your sake, Django wouldn’t have had his shackles
For as long as these balls dangle
I’ll always be the stupid Adam who ate Eve’s apple
And guess who would have done the same, Eden’s archangel.

The Boss Player (Komla Dumor)

My friend once told me there's a Ghanaian on BBC
I shrugged and replied, "That's no news"
He's been a Boss Player since Joy FM right after the 6am news
As typical students we watched to see if he would "Gbaa on BBC"
I had to smile back when he mentioned his name through his glittering teeth
You dare not smile back
Komla is the perfect image of Ghana I mean, he has a typical Ghanaian head
Never has hardwork looked so cool
Professionalism ever smooth like sheep's wool
So I waited for the Noble Peace Prize...
But I guess death called me fool
Hades cannot pause the telling of your African story
A true inspirer and visionary
The voice that sent thrills through hearts of the world
Now echo in the basement of Nkrumah and Mandela's cubicle
Sharing happy tales of how Africa climbs to the pinnacle
Don’t forget to tell them how you showed off your Ghanaian jersey on TV
How you never chose another country over your Ghana
How you worked with honour
How passion was your banner
Irreplaceable and immeasurable is the value of a true son of Africa
We salute you Boss Player!!
